Trail Trust Grant Funding Enables NOHVCC to Host Another Successful Great Trails Workshop
Thanks to generous funding from the Fox Factory Trail Trust Program NOHVCC was able to hold another successful Great Trails Workshop in the Colville National Forest on September 14-15, 2024. The workshop was focused on the Batey Bould ORV area near Cusick, WA. Batey Bould is home to approximately 35 miles of single-track trails open to multiple use including off-road motorcycles. The trail system features a connector trail to the Little Pend Orielle (LPO) Trail System for those wanting to make larger loops.
The NOHVCC Great Trails Guidebook was released in 2015 and features over 350 pages of information on how to manage, maintain, plan, and design OHV trails and facilities. The workshop series was created as a companion to the book to help managers and volunteers apply concepts from the book to their local trail conditions. NOHVCC has delivered over 50 of these workshops across the country. You can find out more about the Great Trails Guidebook here.
The Batey Bould workshop hosted individuals from the US Forest Service, The Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Northwest Motorcycle Association (NMA), The Washington Off-Highway Vehicle Alliance (WOHVA), and the Brush Bunch Motorcycle Club. Topics covered during this workshop include bridge construction, trail hardening, trail reroutes, water control, tread maintenance, planning, and layout and design. We were also able to showcase a lot of the great work done by the NMA’s Heavy Maintenance Crew, a grant funded enterprise where the NMA purchases or rents equipment to conduct trail maintenance and reroutes in cooperation with land managers across the state of Washington. You can find out more about the Northwest Motorcycle Association here. Many new contacts were made between managers and enthusiasts who share an interest in providing quality recreation experiences.
NOHVCC would like to thank the Colville National Forest, the NMA, and Trail Trust for making this workshop a possibility. You can find out more about the Trail Trust program here. This program has distributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to recreational access across the world.
