Equipment Operator Training
When: September 12-16
Where: Grand Valley Ranger District, GMUG NF For more information on equipment training please contact geoff@nohvcc.org
This training is meant to be a 40-hour, five-day introductory class teaching the basics of:
- Best practices for trail dozer and mini excavator operation in trail maintenance operations
- Daily machine preparation and equipment maintenance
- Trail maintenance techniques
- Trailer loading, unloading, and securing equipment
- Safety briefing and hazard identification
- Drainage structures and correct placement
With additional mentored seat time, it is anticipated that an individual will be skilled in the basic operation and capable of operating equipment proficiently.
There is currently no nationally recognized certification that allows heavy equipment operation on a public land by volunteers or agency staff. Ability to operate equipment is still up to your local management procedures for equipment operators. This training is an opportunity to spend time with the basic operation of heavy equipment including maintenance and trail techniques in a controlled environment with experienced instructors. It is anticipated that individuals will need additional mentored time to be proficient operators. Students who complete this training will receive a certificate of completion as well as the trainer’s recommendation for ongoing training needs.
