2018 Annual NOHVCC and INOHVAA Joint Conference

August 14, 2018 - August 18, 2018

Please Read All Information Carefully – Also, Check Out the Information About the Michigan DNR Conference Pre-Ride at the Bottom of the Page!

This year NOHVCC and INOHVAA will visit Grand Rapids, Michigan on August 14-18.  The conferences will follow the typical schedule that will be familiar to many of you. After INOHVAA preliminary activities on the 14th, the conference will begin sessions on the 15th, a mobile field workshop for attendees of both conferences on Thursday, August 16, joint INOHVAA/NOHVCC sessions on Friday, August 17, and finally, the NOHVCC conference will conclude August 18, with sessions on Saturday and a banquet on Saturday evening.

Conference activities and lodging will be hosted at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Grand Rapids Airport

Theme:

The theme of the 2018 NOHVCC Annual Conference is Building on Success! Everyone in the OHV community has faced adversity – restrictions, closures, lost opportunities, etc. But, it is important to remember that progress has been and is being made towards NOHVCC’s goal of “Creating a Positive Future for Responsible OHV Recreation.” Michigan is the perfect state to showcase our theme of Building on Success. Michigan features nearly 4,000 miles of trails and routes for OHV use plus many other opportunities – some of which you can sample during the Mobile Workshop. The Cycle Conservation Club of Michigan is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. Much progress has already been made, so now it is time to Build on Success. With NOHVCC, it is also time to Build on Success. There have been big changes in the last year, but NOHVCC must keep moving forward without letting momentum slip. Please join us in Grand Rapids August 14-18 and be a part of OHV recreation’s positive future – all while recognizing those who got us to where we are today!

What to Expect:

As usual, you can expect great presentations, networking time and a lot of fun.  These joint conferences bring together the best and brightest in the OHV community – including enthusiasts and land managers – and provide the perfect opportunity to gain and share insights on issues, hurdles and successes that have occurred since we last met in New Hampshire.  For any who may attend for the first time, expect to learn a lot, meet a ton of great people, and to share your insights as well.

Click here for a draft preliminary schedule.  As you might imagine we are still in the process of selecting talented and knowledgeable presenters, but we do have some information.  Anyone who has a long approval process can use the draft to secure approval for travel.  Of course, the draft will receive updates as we move forward, but this version should give you a good idea of what we have planned.[/hoot_three_fourth]

NOHVCC’s annual Mobile Workshop will be held on Thursday, August 16 at the Little Manistee Trail System.   Participants will take part in a management tour of the area including moderated discussion on successful management practices and sustainable trail development.  ATVs, ROVs and dirt bikes will be on hand for participants to operate.  The ATV Safety Institute (ASI) ATV RiderCourse®, Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Dirtbike School®, and Recreational OHV Association (ROHVA) DriverCourse® will be made available, provided there is demand.

Michigan DNR to Offer Ride and Discussion Opportunity Prior to NOHVCC Annual Conference

Note: This is not an official NOHVCC event – See information in bold text below

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is offering a tour of the Silver Lake State Park ORV Area on August 13, 2018. The event will kick off with a tour of the area on machines provided by the Michigan DNR or machines that you bring for the ride. The tour will be followed by lunch (provided) with additional opportunities to interact with DNR Staff and Silver Lake Recreation Area sponsors. It will also be an excellent time to learn more about the Silver Lake Dunes.
After lunch those wishing to do so will have the opportunity to rent machines from one of several nearby companies or use their own to ride the dunes. This part of the day will be unguided.

Those wishing to use their own machine after lunch must register their vehicle(s).

Essentially, all vehicles used during the ride will be required to display an ORV License ($26.25) AND an ORV Trail Permit ($10) which can be purchased together online here.  In addition, any vehicle entering Silver Lake State Park will be required to display a Recreation Passport.  Non-Resident Annual Recreation Passports can be purchased online here, short term Passports can be purchased onsite.  The pricing structure is: $32 for an annual non-resident Passport, $9 for a daily non-resident Passport.   Michigan residents can visit here for more information.

Click here prior to your visit to make sure your vehicle is properly equipped.

While this is not an official NOHVCC event – you can click here to register.  Availability will be limited, so act quickly!

IMPORTANT: While those who are participating in the NOHVCC Annual Conference on a NOHVCC travel grant are invited to attend – any nights lodging and any meals added (over those that NOHVCC typically provides for participation in the NOHVCC Conference) will be at the participant’s expense.  NOHVCC will allow anyone utilizing a NOHVCC travel grant to schedule air travel (if otherwise necessary) that allows for attendees to take part in the DNR tour, provided the travel otherwise complies with NOHVCC’s standard travel grant rules and procedures.
