OHV Resources

The NOHVCC recognizes the need for a number of complimentary strategies and tools to assist in the pursuit of our mission. Below are organizations which affect the future of OHV recreation. Make sure you are aware of the impact of each one, and above all, make sure you are an active participant in the process, a paying member when necessary, and always a positive voice for the sport.

All-Terrain Vehicle Association The ATVA is the national membership organization for dedicated and enthusiastic ATV riders and owners. Whether you enjoy using your ATV for racing, trail riding, or back-country hunting, the ATVA can help you get more fun out of your ATV.

Americans For Responsible Recreational Access The ARRA has been formed to ensure that outdoor enthusiasts can keep their right to enjoy and use public lands and waterways. ARRA promotes responsible use of public lands and waterways. Their "Action Alerts" are a quick and easy way to make your voice be heard with your Representatives in Congress.

American Motorcyclist Association Founded in 1924, the AMA has an unparalleled history of pursuing, protecting and promoting the interests of the world's largest and most dedicated group of motorcycle enthusiasts. The AMA focuses on rights, riding and racing through its government relations work, by sanctioning road and off-road riding activities and overseeing professional and amateur racing events.

American Recreation Coalition ARC is a Washington-based non-profit organization formed in 1979. Since its inception, ARC has sought to catalyze public/private partnerships to enhance and protect outdoor recreational opportunities and the resources upon which such experiences are based. ARC conducts research on a regular basis, organizes and conducts national conferences and meetings and disseminates information through a variety of newsletters, columns and other media regarding recreational needs and initiatives. ARC also monitors legislative and regulatory proposals that influence recreation and works with government agencies and the U.S. Congress to study public policy issues that will shape future recreational opportunities.

American Sand Association The mission of the ASA is simple: "Unite, Inform and Mobilize" They accomplish that mission through the use of volunteers. They believe in responsible resource management for the people. The American Sand Association supports a national cooperation of local and regional sand sport organizations and shares with them ideas and information to help them Unite, Inform and Mobilize.

American Trails  American Trails is the only national, nonprofit organization working on behalf of all trail interests, including hiking, bicycling, mountain biking, horseback riding, water trails, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, trail motorcycling, ATVs, snowmobiling and four-wheeling. American Trails members want to create and protect America's network of interconnected trails. They support local, regional, and long-distance trails and greenways, whether they be in backcountry, rural or urban areas. Their goal is to support America's trails by finding common ground and promoting cooperation among all trail interests. They're involved in everything from training trails advocates to increasing accessible trail opportunities for persons with disabilities.

ATV Safety Institute The ATV Safety Institute (ASI), a non-profit division of the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America (SVIA), was formed in 1988 to implement an expanded National program of all-terrain vehicle (ATV) safety education and awareness. ASI's primary goal is to promote the safe and responsible use of ATV's, thereby reducing accidents and injuries that may result from improper ATV operation by the rider.The hands-on, half-day ATV Rider Course is conducted by licensed ASI Instructors. It offers students the opportunity to increase their safety knowledge and to practice basic riding skills in a controlled environment under the direct supervision of a licensed Instructor.

Blue Ribbon Coalition Their motto; We've united to defend access for motorized recreation nationwide. We care about what's happening in your back yard. Your right to enjoy your sport. We are recreationists of all types, working together to preserve our precious natural heritage. We campaign to replace "user conflict" with "user cooperation". All recreationists must learn to share trails and facilities. All must learn acceptance and good manners. Preserving our natural resources FOR the public instead of FROM the public.

Brett Downey Safety Foundation The mission of the Brett Downey Safety Foundation is to supplement the motocross community by increasing safety awareness of riders, parents, track owners, and promoters to make the sport of motocross as safe as possible, minimizing injuries and helping to preserve all motocross tracks. One of the many products featured on the site is an instructional DVD for caution flaggers.

Bureau of Land Management The BLM is responsible for carrying out a variety of programs for the management and conservation, of resources on 258 million surface acres, as well as 700 million acres of subsurface mineral estate, These public lands make up about 13 percent of the total land surface of the United States and more than 40 percent of all land managed by the Federal government.

4-H ATV Safety Program The 4-H ATV Safety program helps youth and adults ride their ATVs safely by teaching them safe riding techniques and practices and choosing when not to ride. It also helps riders build their critical thinking and life skills so that they make good decisions.

FHWA Recreational Trails Program The Recreational Trails Program (RTP) is an assistance program of the Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Federal transportation funds benefit recreation by making funds available to the States to develop and maintain recreational trails and trail-related facilities for both nonmotorized and motorized recreational trail uses.

Motorcycle Industry Council The MIC is a not-for-profit, national trade association created to promote and preserve motorcycling and the U.S. motorcycle and ATV industry. This is accomplished through its activities in government relations, statistics, communications, technical, and aftermarket programs. More than 300 members represent manufacturers and distributors of motorcycles, ATVs, scooters, parts and accessories, as well as allied trades such as publishing, insurance and consultants. While dealers, clubs and individuals are not eligible for membership, the MIC works with these groups on issues of mutual interest.

Motorcycle Safety Foundation The MSF is the internationally recognized developer of the comprehensive, research-based, Rider Education and Training System (MSF RETS). RETS curricula promotes lifelong-learning for motorcyclists and continuous professional development for certified RiderCoaches and other trainers. MSF also actively participates in government relations, safety research, public awareness campaigns and the provision of technical assistance to state training and licensing programs. They administer the The MSF DirtBike School.

National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council
The NOHVCC is a publicly supported, education foundation organized for the sole purpose of developing and providing a wide spectrum of programs, materials and information, or “tools”, to individuals, clubs, associations and agencies in order to further a positive future for responsible OHV recreation.

National Trails Training Partnership
The NTTP is a forum of diverse trail organizations and agencies whose mission is to improve opportunities for training for the nationwide trails community.

Off-Road Business Association
ORBA is a trade association composed of off-road related businesses united to promote common goals that support the prosperity and growth of the off-road industry. Although ORBA is a non-profit corporation, its officers and directors make decisions and take actions based on keeping off-road related businesses operating and profitable. Off-road volunteer organizations that are working at the grass-roots level on specific land use issues can appeal to ORBA for financial and political support. ORBA Directors will decide which issues to support based on potential impacts to the off-road industry. Many professions and trades have unions or trade associations that protect their interests. The off-road business community now has ORBA!

Ohio Motorized Trails Association Faced with the rapidly growing population of Ohio and the increasingly limited places to legally enjoy Ohio’s beautiful outdoor recreational opportunities, trail users from all over Ohio have teamed up to form the Ohio Multi-use Trails Association (OMTA). OMTA is proposing an approach designed to create a net environmental gain on Ohio’s abandoned mine sites, state and national forests, abandoned township and railway corridors, and other trail opportunities to provide safe and environmentally sustainable recreation opportunities to the full range of current and potential trail users.

Partnership Resource Page- The Partnership Resource Center (PRC) web site, hosted by the National Forest Foundation (NFF), encompasses a collaborative vision formed by the Forest Service (FS) and the NFF. As a portal to vast areas of information, the PRC web site provides partners and FS staff with boundaryless information and access they need for enhanced working relationships. By increasing joint stewardship capacity and connecting people to people, the needs of natural resources can be met.

Public (Land) Access Home Page  RS 2477 rights-of-way are property rights originally granted by the federal government to establish the transportation network essential to settlement of the western frontier. Generally, these rights-of-way grants were made to local governments and are held in trust by them for the public. Today, they continue to provide virtually all the public access to and across the hundreds of millions of acres of public and private lands in the West and Alaska. In recent years these rights-of-way and the public's continued access to these public and private lands has been increasingly threatened by a small group of special interests, growing numbers of private landowners, and some state and federal bureaucrats.

Snell Memorial FoundationThe Snell Memorial Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to research, education, testing and development of helmet safety standards. Since its founding in 1957, Snell has been a leader in helmet safety in the United States and around the world.

Tread Lightly! Tread Lightly! is a nonprofit organization offering a variety of tools to help arm recreationists and the industries that serve them with essential outdoor ethics. Their mission is to proactively protect recreation access and opportunities in the outdoors through education and stewardship initiatives.

USDA Forest Service Established in 1905, the Forest Service is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Forest Service manages public lands in national forests and grasslands. Gifford Pinchot, the first Chief of the Forest Service, summed up the mission of the Forest Service— "to provide the greatest amount of good for the greatest amount of people in the long run." National forests and grasslands encompass 193 million acres of land, which is an area equivalent to the size of Texas.
