Frequently Asked Questions

Want to find out more about the NOHVCC? Here are some frequently asked questions.

What is the National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC)?

The NOHVCC is a non-profit educational foundation composed of a national body of OHV recreation enthusiasts dedicated to furthering a positive future for responsible OHV recreation.

What is the purpose of the NOHVCC?

The purpose of the NOHVCC is to develop and provide a wide spectrum of programs, materials, and information or “tools” to individuals, clubs, associations, and agencies in order to:

  • Help establish new OHV clubs and state associations where they don’t exist;

  • Strengthen existing clubs and state associations by providing information, training, and services to help them be more effective;

  • Improve and promote responsible OHV recreation management and resource protection by working in partnership with private and public land managers and recreation planners;

  •  Provide and promote best-management-practices for OHV recreation planning, development, and management to policy makers;

  • Promote a positive OHV recreation image to all publics;

  • Build a better understanding of responsible OHV recreation among all publics;

  • Build recognition and acceptance that OHV recreation is a positive activity and promotes a responsible lifestyle;

  • Provide broad-based, ongoing educational opportunities for OHV recreationists, recreation planners, and decision-makers;

  • Provide and promote educational, safety, ethics, environmental and character-building programs for all OHV recreationists, including youth; and

  • Emphasize the benefits of responsible recreation behavior and raise awareness of the impacts from irresponsible recreation activity.

How does the NOHVCC work?

  • The NOHVCC is not a membership organization but a network of selected volunteer State Representatives.

  • NOHVCC State Representatives and State Associate Representatives are OHV advocates with demonstrated leadership ability and commitment to the promotion of responsible OHV recreation. Representatives and Associates are sought and selected from each state by the NOHVCC Network Development Team.

  • Representatives and Associates utilize and share the NOHVCC “tools” with OHV recreationists to foster growth of local clubs and state associations, establish and improve working relationships with local land managers, and promote responsible OHV recreation opportunities.

  • Representatives and Associates work in the NOHVCC teams to determine what materials and programs are needed, while providing review and guidance as the “tools” are developed. Teams may call upon an extensive list of advisors ranging from national organizations to land management agencies who have unique expertise in recreation management and activities for assistance.

  •  An eleven-member volunteer Board elected by the State Representatives directs the NOHVCC.

  • A professional staff, under the direction of an Executive Director, performs the program, resource development, and general administration.
