In addition to the Forest Service OHV Route Designation Workshops there are two primary types of NOHVCC Workshops, both of which are described below.

NOHVCC OHV Recreation Management Workshops

The NOHVCC OHV Recreation Management Workshops are designed to bring together decision makers, resource specialists, recreation planners, and OHV enthusiasts in order to create a better understanding of OHV public needs and desires; to examine environmental issues surrounding OHV activity; to promote more effective ways to manage OHV recreation; and to enhance the planning, design, and maintenance of quality OHV trails, trail systems, and areas.

Management workshops are statewide in scope and developed in cooperation with local USFS, BLM (where appropriate), and state agency offices to build on existing levels of expertise and to address local situations and issues.

Management workshops are typically two to four days in length and include field time whenever possible.

OHV Recreation Management Workshops may include sessions on:

  • OHV Sales, Demographics, and Training
  • Needs and Desires of the OHV Recreation Public
  • Review of Current State and Federal OHV Policies, Regulations, and Planning Efforts
  • Introduction to the Interrelationship and Critical Components of Engineering, Education, Enforcement, and Evaluation to Achieve Desired OHV Management Outcomes
  • Multiple Use Trail Program Planning and Development
  • Multiple Use Trail Program Construction and Maintenance
  • Education Resources
  • Funding Resources
  • ATV Safety Institute (ASI) ATV RiderCourse
  • Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) DirtBike School
  • Tread Lightly! Master Tread Trainer courses
  • Sound and Spark Arrestor Testing Methods
  • OHV Public and Private Park Development, Volunteer Development
  • Economic Benefits
  • Successful Intra-Agency and Interagency Cooperation

Additional sessions may be added or customized to meet local needs.

NOHVCC OHV State Association Development Workshops

The NOHVCC OHV State Association Development Workshop program, subtitled “The Six-Month Plan,” includes the process and resources to develop, enhance, or re-establish a recognized, statewide, inclusive association of off-highway vehicle recreation interests within six months.

Program services include advance planning, releases, contact point, agendas, registration, facilitation, and notebooks. The NOHVCC works with a state planning team, including the State NOHVCC Representative, to ensure that the developed association meets specific state needs.

Association Development Workshops may include sessions and material on:

  • Identification of the State OHV Community Status
  • Mission, Objectives, and Vision Development
  • Meeting Management
  • Leadership Techniques
  • Effective Communication
  • Election of Officers
  • Committee Development
  • Fund Development and Management
  • Goal Development and Achievement
  • How to Work Effectively with Land Managers
  • Understanding the Political Process
  • AMA “Ride Into Political Action” Seminars

To request a workshop application for a training program in your area, print out, complete and return the following application to the address listed below. For more information, including references and examples of past workshops, contact the NOHVCC by calling toll-free at 800-348-6487. We'll work with you to provide the training you need in a way that will promote OHV recreation responsibly, help you plan and manage it effectively, and work together with the NOHVCC to "Create a Positive Future for Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation."
